St. Joseph City Commissioners have signed off on this year’s bluff stairs mural, meaning visitors to downtown St. Joe will have a great place to pose for photos and take in public art.
St. Joe Today’s Daniele Crevier tells us the mural this year will recognize an important event coming up this summer.
“So this year, in recognition of the America 250, we are partnering with Lest We Forget,” Crevier said. “They’re sponsoring the mural this year. It’s going to be the Statue of Liberty with kind of like a sunrise behind it a little bit with a little sunburst, and the Lest We Forget America 250 logo.”
Crevier says St. Joe Today will once again work with artist Kim Wood on the mural.
“This will be her third mural with us for the bluff stairs. So she’s worked with us in 2024, ‘25, and ‘26. So last year, we just did the paddleboard with the sunrise. That was really fun. And then the year before, it was a prismatic sunset.”
Crevier says the bluff stairs murals are always a favorite of visitors and residents each summer.
“It’s just a fun way to have like a nice photo op for the summer season, a hopefully welcoming image that people can pose for a photo op with.”
Crevier says with the large field of American flags planned by Lest We Forget below the bluff and near the Whirlpool Compass Fountain this summer, the area will put on a true patriotic display.
Wood will begin painting the new mural on the Friday of Memorial Day weekend, likely finishing up just in time for Memorial Day itself, May 25.
