Governor Gretchen Whitmer has announced a new round of appointments to dozens of state boards and commissions, and among those chosen to serve are two Southwest Michigan residents.

Whitmer’s office says the governor has reappointed Gregory Kugel of Niles to the Michigan Apple Committee. Kugel, the chief executive officer of Kugel Farms, will continue representing District 1 for a term expiring in 2029. The Michigan Apple Committee is dedicated to improving the profitability of Michigan’s fresh and processed apple industries. The committee coordinates market development, educational activities, and research.

Also announced Thursday, Whitmer has reappointed Scott Hassle of Decatur to the Michigan Tree Fruit Commission. Hassle, a second-generation farmer and partner at Berrybrook Enterprises, will represent District 2 growers through March 1, 2029. The Michigan Tree Fruit Commission seeks to strengthen the economic position and competitiveness of the state’s tree fruit industry.

All appointments are subject to the advice and consent of the Michigan Senate.
