The Berrien County Sheriff’s Department has released details about an incident at Silver Beach County Park in St. Joseph on Monday that resulted in several arrests and citations.
The department says police responded to a disturbance involving a large crowd of mostly high school students reportedly taking part in “senior skip day” from South Bend and Mishawaka, Indiana. Officers responded to loud music, disorderly behavior, and people dancing on vehicles.
Police from the Berrien County Sheriff’s Department and the St. Joseph Department of Public Safety issued and made arrests and appearance citations. They included 12 arrest citations for alcohol violations, two arrest citations for marijuana possession, three arrest citations for loud music, and two arrests for resisting and obstructing police.
Those involved were ordered to leave the park. The sheriff’s department says many of the individuals later went to Jean Klock Park in Benton Harbor, where there was a shooting.
