Police are investigating after a teen was shot at Jean Klock Park in Benton Harbor on Monday.

The Benton Harbor Department of Public Safety says the teen was shot in the leg and taken to a hospital for treatment after the incident that occurred shortly before 7 p.m.  A large gathering was reported at the park around the same time.

The teen’s injury was believed to be non-life threatening.

Jean Klock Park was closed to the public for the rest of the evening.

Benton Harbor Public Safety is expected to release more information when it’s available. The Berrien County Sheriff’s Department and Michigan State Police are assisting at the scene.

The incident at Jean Klock Park occurred not long after Silver Beach County Park in St. Joseph was closed by police. Berrien County Sheriff Chuck Heit tells us it appears some of the crowd kicked out of Silver Beach wound up at Jean Klock Park. He said they were a younger group out of South Bend.
