The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services is on high alert, one day after a human case of bird flu was announced in Michigan.

Chief Medical Executive Natasha Bagdasarian says there have been no additional cases, but officials are spread across Michigan working to make sure it doesn’t spread.

In terms of monitoring, there is a lot of symptom monitoring happening right now, and that is something that we’ve been doing for several weeks now, where we’re monitoring the health of individuals who work on farms and who are working with these infected dairy herds,” Bagdasarian said. “So, that is all continuing.”

Dr. Bagdasarian calls human cases of bird flu an emerging problem with infected herds of poultry and cattle across the state. She wants people to only drink pasteurized milk and report any symptoms to the state.
