High speed and alcohol appeared to be factors in a Sunday evening crash in Milton Township that injured at 27-year-old man.

Cass County Sheriff Richard J. Behnke reports that Sunday at 6:45 pm, his deputies responded to a single vehicle crash on Bell Road south of US 12 in Milton Township. The investigation, which is still underway, indicates that  Leon House was traveling northeast on Bell Rd at a high rate of speed when he lost control of his vehicle entering the curve.

The Sheriff’s office says House struck a tree with the side of his vehicle. House was not wearing his seat belt at the time of the crash. Officials say he was transported to South Bend Memorial Hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.

Deputies suspect that alcohol may have been a factor in the crash. Niles Township Fire Department assisted the Sheriff’s Office at the scene.
