Natalie Baggio is ready to begin work as the new president of Corewell Health in Southwest Michigan. She’s been named as the replacement for Dr. Loren Hamel, who is retiring in June.

Baggio came to Corewell from Mercy Health South in St. Louis in 2017 and has been a nurse for 15 years. She’s currently the senior vice president, chief nursing executive, and chief operating officer for Corewell Health South.

Baggio tells us when she takes the helm at Corewell Health South, she wants to continue focusing on expanding access to healthcare.

My main focus will align with what Loren has been able to accomplish over the years, creating access to healthcare and providing quality healthcare services to our community here in Southwest Michigan,” Baggio said.

Baggio says she came to Corewell after meeting Dr. Hamel in St. Louis and finding him inspirational. She was mentored by him as she moved to St. Joseph.

Baggio says she appreciates that Corwell is mission-driven and focused on the community and she wants it to grow.

Continuing to recruit great physicians to our community, also working with people in our community to inspire them to choose healthcare as a profession, I think is very important. And continuing to foster that growth to establish a solid workforce.”

As an example of things Corewell has done to expand access to healthcare, Baggio points to the new Center for Better Health and Wellness as a way the health system has committed to equity.

Baggio says as a nurse for 15 years, she’s worked in hospitals providing direct care, giving her an appreciation for what patients need. She takes over for Hamel on July 1.
