Some gun owners in Michigan met last week to continue advocating for legislation that would keep guns out of the hands of convicted domestic abusers.

Two bills recently approved by the Michigan Senate would prevent convicted domestic abusers from possessing firearms for eight years after the completion of their sentence.

Michigan gun owner and therapist Kristen Perry agrees.

“I’ve been a therapist for almost 20 years,” Perry said. “In those nearly two decades, I have worked in community mental health, foster care, and private practice, and I have seen domestic violence impact families in all of those communities. I have also seen the devastating impact of gun violence in families across the board.”

The bills need to be approved in the House before heading to Governor Gretchen Whitmer for her signature. They have the backing of Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel.
