We are here to celebrate the life of Jack Hemminger Jr., known affectionately to many as “Bud”, a man who was as inspiring as he was witty. Born on June 3, 1951, in Buchanan, Michigan, Jack’s creative spirit and luminous intelligence were evident from an early age. It was this spirit that led him to graduate from Buchanan High School in 1969 with high honors and secure a full ride academic scholarship to Michigan State University. Here, he honed his talents and graduated with a degree in Civil Engineering. Jack then carried his talents to Las Vegas, Nevada, where he worked for the Department of Energy and later returned to Michigan to continue his work at The Cook Nuclear Plant until retirement. As Albert Einstein once said, “Creativity is intelligence having fun,” and Jack truly embodied this.

Jack’s life was an adventure, and he had a knack for finding joy and humor in every moment. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, and his love for the outdoors was only surpassed by his love for his family and his faithful side-kick, Otto. Jack’s unfiltered wit and exceptional intelligence made him a favorite at family gatherings where he could often be found spinning tales of his mushroom hunting exploits in the Upper Peninsula or sharing his latest adventures with Otto. His love for his family and friends was always evident, and he held a special place in his heart for his wife, Diane, his children and grandchildren, and his great-grandchild.

Jack is survived by his children, Brian, Ashley, and John Hemminger; his grandchildren, Jessica and Khloe Lane, Branden and Brooklyn Hemminger; his great-grandson, Dewayne Hemminger; and his siblings, Victoria (Bill) Eberhard, Sandra (Mark) Weber, Pamela Wright, Christopher (Stephanie) Hemminger, and Debra (Robert) Lotsbaich. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Joyce Hemminger; his beloved wife, Diane; and his niece, Andrea Hemminger.

As we remember Jack, let’s remember him as he was – a talented, creative, and inspiring individual with a heart full of love and a spirit full of adventure. We invite you to share your memories of Jack and upload photos to the memorial page. Your stories and photos are a testament to the incredible life that Jack lived and will serve as a beautiful tribute to a man who was so dearly loved. After all, as Dr. Seuss once said, “Don’t cry because it’s over, smile because it happened.” Jack Hemminger Jr.’s life is indeed something to smile about. A celebration of Life will be scheduled at a later date.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Hoven Funeral Home, Buchanan.
