Krasl to host pumpkin painting, Halloween-themed silent films Oct. 8

Krasl Art Center and the Coastline Children’s Film Festival have combined forces for the third annual Flick-or-Treat on October 8 at the Krasl Art Center, 707 Lake Boulevard, St. Joseph.

Started in 2020, Flick-or-Treat is an evening to enjoy classic silent films with improvisational piano accompaniment by Dr, Larry Schanker, Executive Director and Music Specialist for the Brookview Montessori School.

From 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., the public is invited to come paint a pumpkin during Krasl’s Family Day. This event will be outdoors, so organizers are asking for attendees to dress according to the weather, as well as for a pumpkin mess. The pumpkins will be left outside to try and will be used to decorate the film screening, which begins at at 7:30 p.m.

Popcorn, coffee and hot cocoa from Red Arrow Roasters will be available while families experience 10 classic films on the Oval Lawn. A $2 suggested donation supports CCFF and KAC collaborations. In the event of rain, the event will be on October 9.

The films will be projected onto Krasl’s south-facing wall are accompanied by an improvisational piano performance from Dr. Larry Shanker, Executive Director and Music Specialist for the Brookview Montessori School.
