With the school year about to kick off in Michigan, Governor Gretchen Whitmer met with more than 50 superintendents from around the state. Whitmer touted the recent education budget which includes the highest per student investment in Michigan history. Money will also be used for school safety, student mental health, teacher recruitment and training.

“The school year is starting in a few weeks. It will be the first normal year many of our kids have had in four years,” said Whitmer. “We know students need to be in school and that’s where we get the best outcomes, and it’s so important.”

Whitmer shut down the schools for in-person learning in March of 2020 for the year because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Students were taught online.
