The Coloma community is mourning the loss of a beloved educator.

Angie Arent-Seabury, who retired from teaching kindergarten at Coloma Elementary School this year, has died unexpectedly at the age of 58.

Arent-Seabury was a Coloma High School graduate who married her high school sweetheart over 35 years ago. She had been teaching kindergarten for more than 20 years.

In a post on the City of Coloma Facebook page, Commissioner Taylor Prestidge wrote the following statement on behalf of Mayor Marsha Hammond, the rest of the commissioners and the city:

“The city of Coloma is incredibly saddened and in disbelief this afternoon with the news of the passing of one of Coloma’s finest.

Angie was a true gift to the community, an angel on earth, a legend, and simply one of the best people many of us have known. She taught for more than 30 years and touched hundreds of lives in that time.

She completed her last cartwheels down the hallway on the last day of school this year as she entered retirement with excitement. She was a hero and friend to many with her contagious smile and bubbly personality. She was such a positive force and full of life.

For many of us, she was the first one that parents trusted to take care of their children. So many of us know the excitement that any of her “littles” got when they would see her. And of course her reminders that she loved them more than pizza.

She was an educational rockstar who lived to inspire and loved to encourage. Her big heart shaped many little minds.

Angie loved her family, her students, her Cubbies, and her jeep. We choose to remember her cruising through town in her blue Jeep with the top off and windows down … music blaring, cubs shirt on, and wind whipping in her hair. The biggest smile on her face as she beeped and waved at all those she recognized.

We extend our heartfelt condolences to her husband, 2 sons, family, and all of those many friends & students mourning her loss today.

An amazing teacher is hard to find, difficult to part with, and impossible to forget.
We love you Mrs. Seabury and thank you for everything. You will be missed tremendously.
Former students, friends and community members also expressed their sadness in the comments on the city’s post.
