Congressman Fred Upton’s Cures 2.0 legislation has been delayed a bit. He tells WSJM News the follow up to 2016’s 21st Century Cures legislation has been backed up in the U.S. House due to the Democratic spending plan.

“This multi trillion dollar infrastructure bill is taking all of the air out of the legislative council’s ability to write legislation,” Upton said. “When you get an idea, a legislative idea, the legislative council has to write it, especially if you’re not a lawyer.”

Cures 2.0 will include a new department called ARPA-H that would develop and research drugs for highly fatal and less common illnesses. It would also seek to improve the tracking of patient outcomes through new technology. Upton told us Cures 2.0 may get moved to next week.
