About 79,000 people flew in and out of Cherry Capital Airport in Traverse City in June. That’s a record breaking jump from June of 2019. Cherry Capital Airport Director Kevin Klein spoke with Michigan News Network this week.

“June was kind of a pendulum swing from the pandemic where we saw a lot of return travelers come back to northern Michigan, and our numbers are up 26.9% for June. So that is compared to 2019.”

Klein says the numbers look good for July so far. He says the airlines made adjustments for the pandemic, adding more seats and cleaning protocols because of the pandemic. He says we’ll see if business travel picks up in the Fall.
