People are saying no to proposed state DNR rules to inhibit access to state beaches on high wind and wave days and issue fines for those who violate the rules. At a DNR commission meeting Thursday, Surfers, kiteboarders and others spoke against the proposed rules .
“We again appreciate the intent of the order, but would like to see more careful analysis of all the different options to keep Michiganders safe rather than preventing them from entering the water during dangerous weather conditions,” said Nick Ochipinti of the Michigan League of Conservation Voters. He says it would be hard to enforce the rule. The DNR says drownings at west Michigan beaches is the reason for the order.
