Restaurant Association: Governor’s Request Misguided

“Misguided” is how the Michigan Restaurant and Lodging Association describes Governor Gretchen Whitmer’s request to Michiganders to avoid eating indoors at restaurants for two weeks to slow the spread of COVID-19. MRLA President Justin Winslow says the data doesn’t show that restaurants are a major contributor to new COVID cases, adding out of nearly 1,000 investigations into outbreaks underway, an “insignificant 0.3% of those investigations involved restaurant patrons.” He says the MRLA trusts its members to keep their establishments safe and have been doing all they can to protect staff and customers. Winslow says the MRLA supports the governor’s call for prioritizing vaccinations to achieve herd immunity, but “the continued scapegoating of the restaurant industry without proof or reliable data won’t make it come any sooner.”
