Berrien County Sheriff’s deputies will take part in “Operation Safe Stop” from October 19th through the 23rd. Their enforcement efforts will be in and around school bus pick-up and drop-off locations and speed zones near schools. They are teaming with the Office of Highway Safety Planning and other police for the campaign. Passing a stopped school bus can result in a fine between $100 and $500 and include up to 100 hours of community service at a school. If someone passes a bus and causes a death, that brings up to 15 years in prison.
