Berrien County residents are being invited to a Flood Map Information Open House in Benton Harbor on January 14 from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. It will be held at the Benton Harbor Public Library and put on by the Federal Emergency Management Agency. FEMA representatives will be discussing the recently completed preliminary Flood Insurance Study, and its accompanying preliminary Flood Insurance Rate Maps. Those designate areas that are subject to significant flood hazards along the shoreline areas of the county. Once the maps take effect, they’ll be used to base flood insurance ratings and as the basis for local flood protection regulations under the National Flood Insurance Program.
