The Frederick S. Upton Foundation has announced a $20,000 matching grant for Emergency Shelter Services. ESS Director Julee Laurent tells WSJM News the organization is now raising money to bring in those extra funds. She says Emergency Shelter Services works to help people who are in danger of becoming homeless.

“Emergency Shelter Services has been serving people for 30 years, and this grant goes towards the betterment of women and children in need throughout Berrien County, moving them from a homeless situation into stability,” Laurent said.

If you make a donation to Emergency Shelter Services, you can help them match that Upton Foundation grant. There are currently more than 1,300 people without a home in Berrien County. Laurent says $30 per day feeds and houses someone. You can learn more at ESSBerrien.org.
