A woman who walked all the way around Lake Michigan and wrote a book about the experience will be making a presentation in Bridgman on Thursday. Loreen Niewenhuis took the trek in 2009, and has since toured around the region giving talks about what she learned. She introduces herself on her YouTube channel.
“My favorite place has always been Lake Michigan, and in 2009, I decided to get to know it by walking completely around it, step by step,” Niewenhuis said. “This was a journey of over 1,00 miles, and led to my first book, A 1,000 Mile Walk on the Beach.”
Niewenhuis later did another hike touching all five of the Great Lakes and checking out Great Lakes islands. She’ll be speaking at Weko Beach on Thursday at 7:30 p.m. as a guest of the Bridgman Public Library. She’ll have photos from her Great Lakes journeys and some copies of her books on hand. The library says everyone is welcome to come and hear her speak.
