It was standing room only Saturday at Greater Community Christian Fellowship in Benton Harbor as the community said goodbye to Kiarre Curtis and her five sons, killed in the fire at the Cosmo Extended Stay Motel in Sodus Township in late July. Her cousin, Annette Curtis, spoke to our partners at WNDU NewsCenter 16 after the service.

“It’s a real (tragedy) that just happened. My heart goes out to the family,” said Curtis, adding “Right now, I’m really just lost for words. It’s so sad. But may God be with the family.”

A GoFundMe set up for Kiarre Curtis’ husband and surviving year-old daughter has so far raised just over 74-hundred dollars. He was able to get the baby out of the burning motel, but could not get back in to save the rest of his family.
