Municipal League Hoping For More Female Managers

Just 16% of Michigan’s municipal managers are women when women represent 50% of the population. That’s why the Michigan Municipal League is launching the 16-50 Project to draw more women to those management positions in local government. The League’s Emily Kieliszewski told Michigan News Network this week they plan to do it by removing barriers for women, and professional development.

“We’ll also have an ambassador program, and it’s meant to connect professional women interested in the field directly with a municipal female executive to learn more about the profession,” Kieliszewski said.

Kieliszewski says they will also work to attract female graduates to these careers.
