The Berrien Community Foundation is accepting applications for two grant programs started by the John E.N. and Dede Howard family.
The foundation says the Howard Facilities Program Endowment Grant and the Howard Youth Endowment Program Grant are both open through June 30, 2026. They continue the legacy of the Howards, whose donations helped fund educational, cultural, and recreational opportunities in the region.
The name of the Howards grace such St. Joseph attractions as the downtown bandshell, the Howard Trail, and the ice arena in town. The BCF says the Howard Facilities Program Endowment Grant will support programs for Berrien County residents held at Howard-named locations, such as those just mentioned. Eligible projects could include educational field trips, community gatherings or recreational activities.
Also, the Howard Youth Endowment Program Grant is focused on helping young people in the St. Joseph and Benton Harbor areas through projects that promote learning, growth and community involvement. Eligible programs could include arts classes, service projects, or intergenerational events.
The deadline for groups to apply for the grants is June 30. You can learn more right here.
