Niles motorcyclist killed after deer collision in Cass County

A 28-year-old Niles man was killed Sunday night in a motorcycle crash involving a deer in Cass County.

Cass County Sheriff Clint Roach said deputies responded at about 8:55 p.m. May 17 to a single-vehicle crash on M-60 near Lilac Avenue in Howard Township.

Investigators said Jesse Maurer was riding northbound on M-60 when a deer struck the side of his motorcycle. Maurer then lost control, left the roadway and crashed into a culvert.

Maurer was pronounced dead at the scene.

Assisting at the scene were SMCAS Ambulance and the Howard Township Fire Department.

The crash remains under investigation by the Cass County Sheriff’s Office.
