The Berrien RESA Board of Education has awarded Superintendent Eric Hoppstock its highest possible annual evaluation rating of “effective,” extending his contract by another year, through June 30, 2029.

The board conducted its annual evaluation of Hoppstock during a meeting this week.

Board President Jackie Van Horn praised Hoppstock’s leadership, citing his focus on innovation, inclusivity, and continuous improvement while ensuring staff, students, and local school districts feel supported. Van Horn also highlighted Hoppstock’s work beyond the agency, including advocacy for state and federal education initiatives and partnerships with local businesses to expand career opportunities for students.

Hoppstock has spent 39 years serving schools and students across Berrien County. He began his career with Berrien RESA in 1987 as a psychologist before later serving as the supervisor of special education, assistant superintendent, and chief academic officer prior to becoming superintendent.
