Braves 4, Tigers 3 – Matt Olson’s 2-run homer in the ninth gives the Braves 4-3 win over the Tigers
Matt Olson hit a two-run homer in the ninth inning off Kenley Jansen, ruining a dominant performance by Tarik Skubal and rallying the Atlanta Braves to a 4-3 victory over the Detroit Tigers. Jansen blew his third save in nine chances. He walked Ozzie Albies to lead off the ninth. Olson followed with his ninth homer, a shot into the Atlanta bullpen that ended the game. Skubal fell behind on Albies’ two-run homer in the first but gave up only three hits the rest of his stint, with two of those runners wiped out by double plays.

White Sox 3, Angles 2 – F/10 – Antonacci, Montgomery lead White Sox to 3-2, 10-inning win for sweep
Rookie Sam Antonacci hit a tying triple with two outs in the ninth inning and Colson Montgomery had a winning single in the 10th, lifting the Chicago White Sox over Los Angeles 3-2 for a three-game sweep that extended the Angels’ losing streak to six. Mike Trout hit his 10th home run of the season for the Angels, who have lost 10 of 11 and dropped to 12-20. Los Angeles starter Yusei Kikuchi left after two innings with left shoulder tightness. With the White Sox trailing 2-1, Tristan Peters was hit by a Ryan Zeferjahn pitch with one out in the ninth and scored on Antonacci’s triple.

Cubs 5, Padres 4 – Pete Crow-Armstrong homers, drives in 3 runs to lead Cubs to 5-4 win over Padres
Pete Crow-Armstrong hit his third home run of the season and drove in three runs to lead the Chicago Cubs to a 5-4 win over the San Diego Padres. The Cubs have won 12 of their last 15 games. Crow-Armstrong’s homer on Wednesday was a two-run shot down the right-field line in the fourth to give the Cubs a 3-0 lead. Cubs starter Jameson Taillon did not allow a baserunner through the first 4 2/3 innings. Taillon gave up three runs, three hits and struck out six in seven innings. Chicago reliever Hoby Milner earned his first save.

Indy500 – Takuma Sato avoids collision with fox and posts 4th-fastest lap during testing
The Brickyard seems to be doubling as a wildlife sanctuary during Indianapolis 500 testing. One day after French driver Romain Grosjean’s car hit and killed a bird as it topped 200 mph, two-time Indy 500 champ Takuma Sato barely avoided a collision with a fox when the animal ran across the track on Wednesday. Sato then posted the fourth-fastest lap in afternoon testing at 225.109. Two-time Indy winner Josef Newgarden of Team Penske jumped to the top of the speed chart in the final test session with a lap of 225.617. Points leader and defending Indy champ Alex Palou was next at 225.272.

FIFA – World Cup games could be sizzling. Organizers prepare for extreme heat
The 2022 World Cup tournament in Qatar was moved from summer to winter because of the threat of extreme heat. But if the record-breaking heat that scorched the Southwest in March is any indication, summer temperatures in cities hosting World Cup games this year could be sizzling. In Los Angeles, officials are planning temporary pop-up hydration stations, shade structures and a public messaging campaign on how to stay safe in the heat. For the Dallas games and related events, plans include tents with misters, water distribution and multiple first aid stations, and medical personnel will have immediate access to ice immersion bags and ice. In Seattle, city officials are looking into providing air-conditioned buses, tents and water misters.
