AAA of Michigan is advising everyone to be prepared for severe weather this spring.
AAA has teamed up with the Insurance Institute for Business and Home Safety to help residents prepare with a new Storm Ready Guide. AAA Director of Claims Jason Allen says spring weather patterns fuel fast-developing storms capable of causing severe damage with little warning, which we’ve already seen this year in Southwest Michigan. And he says these situations compound themselves.
“A rainstorm is going to saturate the soil, which makes it a lot easier for when the windstorm or the tornado comes through to impact the tree and thus it may fall on property or homes,” Allen said.
Allen says AAA has seen people making claims for hail and tree damage, and it expects the spring to bring more trouble.
“We anticipate additional rainstorms. We also anticipate additional wind storms as well as hail storms to come about in the near future.”
AAA is reminding everyone to be prepared for severe weather by staying informed of the latest conditions. It recommends getting an NOAA weather radio and having an emergency kit ready. It also advises members to review their coverage to ensure they’re protected from events more likely to occur.
