Coming up later this month at Lake Michigan College will be a chance for anyone to check out a full day of soccer action while learning about college teams from all over the region.

LMC Head Soccer Coach Isaac Hernandez tells us he’s planning a Soccer Showcase featuring five teams that will be playing each other, round robin style.

“We will be playing each other, but I’m also hopeful that they will bring information about their school to kind of talk about the school and have information there for anyone that may or may not be interested in finding out about those schools,” Hernandez said.

Hernandez says the idea behind the showcase is to help student athletes see the wide array of options they have when selecting a college.

I also want local kids to see that there are other schools that they can continue playing their sport, apart from the Division I big schools. There are definitely other options throughout the country that someone can get a great education  while continuing their sport without having to go the Division I Big Ten route.”

On hand for the Soccer Showcase will be teams from Davenport, Alma College, Bethel, Goshen, and of course, Lake Michigan College. Hernandez told us more about the LMC program.

The event will be held at the Benton Harbor campus on March 28 from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Hernandez says he’s hoping to get some food trucks to come out. He also wants to hold the event again in the future, but with more colleges.

“What we’re hoping for that we can make this a much larger event in the future with the volleyball coaches playing on teaming up with me next year.”

Everyone’s invited to show up on the 28th and check out some soccer.
