A weekend-long fundraising event aimed at supporting local cancer patients is set to take place at the Garden Ice Arena.
The seventh annual Slap the Puck Out of Cancer event runs from Friday evening through Sunday afternoon and is sponsored by LSJ Hockey, Garden Ice Arena, and Berrien County Cancer Service. Activities begin around 6 p.m. Friday and continue until 4 p.m. Sunday.
According to Berrien County Clerk Stacy Loar-Porter, the event raises money exclusively for Berrien County Cancer Service, which provides support to residents undergoing cancer treatment. Organizers say the fundraiser has brought in nearly $35,000 over the past seven years.
The event features activities throughout the weekend, along with a silent auction offering a variety of donated items. Auction prizes include a Cessna airplane flight over the area, a fly-fishing trip, and several electronic items. Fundraising merchandise, including T-shirts and “I Fight For” signs, will also be available for purchase, with signs displayed around the rink.
Organizers encourage community members to stop by the arena, enjoy the activities, and support the cause. All proceeds from the event benefit Berrien County Cancer Service.
The Garden Ice Arena is located at 1626 West Glenlord Road in St. Joseph.
