Benton Charter Township residents are no longer advised to boil their water before consuming it.

Benton Charter Township has lifted the boil water notice that was issued to some residents on January 17, following earlier testing that detected potential contamination.

Officials say corrective measures were taken immediately, and follow-up testing confirmed that no coliform bacteria remain in the township’s water system. Residents are now advised that tap water is safe for drinking, cooking, and other household uses, and boiling is no longer required.

The township encourages residents to follow flushing guidelines for their household plumbing to ensure water quality, and provides resources online for proper maintenance. Additional information on drinking water safety, including filtration resources, is available through the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services.

Residents with questions or concerns can contact Benton Charter Township at 269-369-6819, or the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy at 1-800-292-4706. Township officials thanked the community for their patience while the issue was addressed.
