Benton Charter Township is asking some residents to limit their water usage due to issues with the water plant’s intake system.
The township says because of weather conditions, small particles of ice in Lake Michigan have plugged up the water plant’s intake, limiting the amount of water that the plant can take in to treat.
The township is now asking residents, commercial, and industrial customers of the water system in the areas west and north of the Southwest Michigan Regional Airport to limit their water use until the issue is resolved. It says this will help ensure there’s enough water in the system to serve everyone.
The township says it’s now working to fix the issue and is getting water from another source until the ice is clear. Due to the change in water source, it says some residents may notice a different appearance in their water.
