With Berrien County Administrator Brian Dissette leaving for another job early next month, the Berrien County Board of Commissioners has started talking about the search for his replacement.
Speaking Friday, Commissioner Bob Harrison said first thing’s first — finding an interim administrator.
“A number of people have sent me names that people who might be interested either in the short term or the long term position,” Harrison said. “I’ve primarily been focusing on the short term, but then I always drift into other discussions with people.”
Harrison asked colleagues to give him any suggestions they might have. He said at this point, no one has committed, but he still had about four or five additional candidates to call.
“The same name has been suggested multiple times, but surprisingly, or not surprisingly, some people are very happy in the position they’re in now.”
Once an interim administrator is found, the next step is to formally post the position of administrator. Harrison said it will be posted with the Michigan Municipal League, the Michigan Association of Counties, and on the Berrien County website.
Dissette will take on the new job as Ottawa County Deputy Administrator, effective February 2. He’s been the Berrien County Administrator since 2020. Previously, he was South Haven City Manager.
