Philip Bruce Novak (Couturier) was born on February 26, 1938, at South Haven Hospital. He enjoyed an idyllic childhood growing up near the shores of Lake Michigan. During high school, he met the love of his life, Lynne Weimer, who quickly stole his heart.

While Lynne was finishing high school, Phil enlisted in the United States Navy. In 1957, he proudly served aboard the USS Nantahala as a radar man. After his honorable discharge, Phil married his high school sweetheart, Lynne, beginning a devoted partnership that would last a lifetime.

Phil enrolled at Michigan State University, where he and Lynne worked tirelessly to put him through school while raising two of their children. After graduating, the family moved to Anderson, Indiana, where Phil began his career with General Motors in production. During this time, they welcomed their third child, and Phil continued to advance through the corporate ranks. Following the passing of Lynne’s mother, the family returned to Michigan.

In retirement, Phil fully embraced life, enjoying boating, fishing, and reconnecting with many cherished friends. He was known for his unique sense of humor and his gift for storytelling, which brought laughter and joy to his family. Phil possessed a strong work ethic, a deep love for his grandchildren, and a steady presence that anchored his family.
