The Lakeshore Public Schools Board of Education has approved contracts for about $1.4 million in building improvements districtwide, all paid for with the district’s 2023 voter-approved bond.
At the board’s regular meeting on Monday, trustees hired several contractors for a variety of work at the elementary and high school buildings. Superintendent Greg Eding said the high school will see some notable improvements.
“High school auditorium roof replacement and the high school band room which band storage cabinets and storage replacement and the transportation building putting a new epoxy floor covering in the garage area,” Eding said.
All three elementary buildings will receive new partition walls in the gyms, repainted metal door frames, and new mechanical units. Eding said those new gym partitions ought to make life easier.
“The partitions that are going up are like replacing the partitions in each of the gyms. And these will be, I think, mechanical. So I believe push button. I think it’s going to be a big deal.”
Roosevelt will also receive a new shingle membrane roof to replace its existing built-up roof, while Stewart will get a new mechanical unit in the media center mezzanine, among other things.
The bids from seven different contractors were all approved by trustees, who noted some of the firms are local. The 2023 bond was for $19.9 million.
