Some residents of the village of Decatur have been ordered to evacuate due to a grain fire Saturday afternoon.
On social media, the village posted the following:
“JANUARY 10, 2026, VILLAGE OF DECATUR, MI
A MANDATORY EVACUATION ORDER HAS BEEN ISSUED FOR THE FOLLOWING AREAS, AND EVERYTHING IN BETWEEN DUE TO A POTENTIAL GRAIN BIN FIRE:– E. DELAWARE ST.– W. DELAWARE ST.– S. WILLIAMS ST.– S. GEORGE ST.The Issuing Authority – e.g., Van Buren County Emergency Management, Village of Decatur Emergency Management, Van Buren Sheriff’s Office, Michigan State Police, and the Pokagon Tribal Police, in coordination with additional state and local partners, has issued a MANDATORY EVACUATION ORDER effective IMMEDIATELY.At the time of this release, all homes have effectively been evacuated. Please stay out of the vicinity until a safety update is provided on this Facebook post and through Nixle.
