A 63-year-old Bertrand Township man has been arrested following the execution of a search warrant tied to a months-long narcotics investigation, according to Michigan State Police (MSP).

Members of the Southwest Enforcement Team (SWET) and MSP detectives executed the warrant January 6 at a residence in the 2700 block of Weaver Road in Bertrand Township. The search followed a two-month investigation into suspected drug activity.

Police said the man was arrested on five felony counts of firearm possession, one felony count of receiving and concealing a stolen firearm, one count of possession of fentanyl or heroin, and one count of maintaining a drug house.

Authorities said the investigation was part of ongoing efforts by SWET and its partner agencies to remove illegal drugs and firearms from the community and improve public safety in Berrien County and the surrounding area.

State police noted that in Southwest Michigan, fatal drug overdoses claim more lives each year than fatal car crashes and homicides combined.

Anyone seeking information about substance use treatment can contact Southwest Michigan Behavioral Health at 800-781-0353. Tips related to drug activity can be submitted by email to MSP-PROTECT@michigan.gov or through the anonymous tip line at 269-982-8664.

Authorities stated the investigation was supported by a federal grant from the U.S. Department of Justice’s Bureau of Justice Assistance and administered by the Michigan State Police.
