Congressman Bill Huizenga says 2025 was a year of accomplishments in Washington.
Looking back, Huizenga says the biggest win in Congress was the approval of the Big Beautiful Bill, the massive tax and spending package that that combined a dozen bills into one. Huizenga says that preserved tax cuts that were set to expire.
“It allowed families to not see this massive increase that would have been happening in their tax bill,” Huizenga said. “Had we not done that, we would have seen the per child tax credit cut in half for a huge swath of the country.”
Huizenga says the package protected the ability of small businesses to deduct expenses, including research and development. He notes the bill also included provisions related to projects like Palisades, calling its passage between January and July “breakneck speed.”
Looking ahead to 2026, Huizenga says he wants to continue serving those who live in his district. He says as a former district staffer himself, he knows how it’s important for his office to be responsive to requests for help from residents.
Meanwhile, Huizenga just announced his reelection campaign and tells us he wants to continue his work on policy.
“I’m doing some very interesting work on computer chips and AI that has been bringing some real exposure to where are we going to be as a country in a society and in a world where AI is continuing to grow in its influence, and I want to be a part of that conversation.”
Huizenga says he also wants to work across the aisle on issues like energy policy, the Great Lakes, and international matters. He says he’s excited about the opportunities to work for constituents in the coming years.
