No one’s hurt after a house fire in Lincoln Township on Christmas Eve morning.

The Lincoln Township Fire Department says it was dispatched to the home in the Grand Mere area around 7 a.m. When firefighters arrived, there was a smoky smell outside and the homeowners directed them to the second floor. There they found bubbling paint that was turning black on the wall between the master bedroom and bathroom.

Upon checking the third floor, firefighters found smoke coming from a vent. Using tools to break the drywall and some water cans, firefighters were able to attack the flames and damage was kept to a minimum.

The homeowners were able to catch the fire and call for help before it got out of control.

The Benton Harbor Department of Public Safety and Lake Township Fire and Rescue assisted at the scene.

The fire department reminds everyone to be sure to have working smoke detectors and a fire escape plan at home.
