Michigan drivers continue to show off their personality through their license plates.
The Michigan Secretary of State’s office says more than 11.7 million license plates are currently in circulation statewide. The white Pure Michigan plate remains the most popular, making up more than 70% of all plates on the road. The blue and yellow Water-Winter Wonderland plate ranks second, followed closely by the Mackinac Bridge design.
The Secretary of State says interest is also growing in legacy plates, which raise money for road repairs, with more than 63,000 issued since February. Veterans plates are another popular one, with 136,000 statewide. They’re led by Army veterans, while university fundraising plates number more than 122,000. Michigan State University and the University of Michigan lead the way.
Drivers are also supporting causes through specialty plates benefiting wildlife, charities, and professional sports foundations.
