The latest defense spending package includes a bill from Michigan Congressman Tom Barrett.

The military appropriations were signed into law by President Donald Trump late last week. Barrett says after the tragic crash over the Potomac River earlier this year between an American Airlines flight and a military helicopter, he put together the Military Helicopter Training Safety Act, which he said would help install anti-crash safety technology.

A lesson learned out of that is that we need to change what we’re doing, and this bill will hopefully bring us in that direction,” Bareett said. “I’m proud that as a first year member of Congress, I could get one of my bills signed into law in something that I definitely don’t take for granted.”

Barrett is a former Army helicopter pilot himself.
