With high winds and snow expected around Southwest for the next day, Indiana Michigan Power is ready to spring into action to restore service to anyone who loses it.

Company spokesperson Schnee Doyle tells us as of early Wednesday afternoon, I&M had about 300 outages in Michigan, but that could change.

During the weather, we encourage our customers to prepare and have a plan in place in case they experience a power outage,” Doyle said. “Our crews are prepared and will work as quickly and safely as possible to restore power if outages occur in our community.”

Doyle said even though it’s Thanksgiving, crews will respond to any issues.

We know that this is a holiday weekend, so rest assured that we are fully staffed and prepared to respond to outages. If they occur, our workers, we live and we work in the communities too. So if we’re at our table and there’s a Thanksgiving meal, but there’s a power outage, our workers will leave their families behind and they will come and restore your power.”

Doyle advised customers to have supplies ready in case of an outage. She also reminded everyone to treat any downed power lines as though they’re live and to call police or the utility if they see one.

If using a generator, make sure it’s outside and far from any doors or windows.
