Due to improved student performance, Fair Plain East Elementary School in Benton Harbor has officially been removed from the Michigan Department of Education Partnership Agreement with Benton Harbor Area Schools.

Previously, the state education department began discussions with school districts to develop partnership agreements with a goal of improving achievement levels at the lowest performing schools in Michigan. Benton Harbor Area Schools was among those districts. Now it’s announced that Fair Plain East Elementary has been removed from the 2024-25 Michigan School Index results, released last week.

Fair Plain East is among 68 schools in Michigan that exited state support this year because of improved student outcomes. Benton Harbor Area Schools says the achievement reflects years of progress, collaboration, and student growth, with Fair Plain East Principal Jordan Wright adding this is proof the school’s hard work is paying off.

BHAS Superintendent Simone Griffin says the new milestone reflects the momentum of the entire district.
