Michigan State Police in Southwest Michigan are conducting a food drive all this month.
MSP Lieutenant DuWayne Robinson out of Paw Paw tells us the five posts in the region — Niles, Paw Paw, Wayland, Marshall, and District Headquarters — all decided they wanted to lend a hand to those in need this season.
“We just understand that in our community, there are people that are going without, they’re struggling to provide their families just with the basic needs, such as food and other household items,” Robinson said. “So we just thought it was a good way or a good time of the year for the Michigan State Police to come together and be more than just an enforcement agency.”
Robinson says anyone can make a donation by stopping by one of the posts.
“The public can drop off any of the items that we’re looking for, such as canned goods, peanut butter, cereals, soup, and other household and hygiene items, such as toilet paper, soap, deodorant.”
To encourage participation, a friendly district-wide competition will be held among posts, with the top-collecting post earning a free lunch. Robinson says all donated items will go to food pantries in their area and organizations like the United Way.
The drive started Friday and continues through November 30.
