Lake Michigan College is thanking voters after the approval of its millage renewals this week.

The votes came amid a large campaign seeking the rejection of the millages as opponents spread what LMC described as misinformation, but the final vote on Tuesday had the requests winning approval by a healthy margin.

When combining results from Berrien County and the precincts in Van Buren County that had the college questions on the ballot, the renewal of LMC’s operating millage had 16,875 votes of yes to 13,126 votes of no. For the capital millage, it was 17,397 to 12,584.

In a statement issued Wednesday morning, LMC President Trevor Kubatzke said the community’s support “reflects a continued confidence in the work we do and the vital role our institution plays in our community.” He added the “vote is an investment in the future of our students, our workforce, and our region.”

Below is Kubatzke’s full statement:

“On behalf of Lake Michigan College, I want to express my heartfelt gratitude to the voters of the LMC District for passing the millage. Your support reflects a continued confidence in the work we do and the vital role our institution plays in our community. This vote is an investment in the future of our students, our workforce, and our region. It affirms our shared commitment to providing accessible, high-quality education and training that transforms lives and strengthens our local economy. Thanks to your continued support, Lake Michigan College will remain a strong and innovative resource for everyone in our community.”
