Ronald Lee Gunther, 75, of Dowagiac, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, September 30, 2025, with his daughter by his side.

Born April 20, 1950, in Dowagiac, Michigan, Ron was the son of William and Gayla (Abrams) Gunther. From a young age, he embodied a strong sense of duty — a value that guided him throughout his life.

Ron proudly served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam Conflict, where his courage and sacrifice were recognized with the Purple Heart. Following his military service, Ron continued his commitment to others through a distinguished 25-year career with the Cass County Sheriff’s Office, retiring as a respected Sergeant. His quiet strength and steady presence earned the trust and admiration of both colleagues and community members.

Family was at the heart of everything Ron did. He is survived by his devoted wife, Linda Gunther; his daughters, Jennifer McClenahan and Gayla Deering; and stepsons, Todd (Carmen) Clement, Richard (Heather) Wolf, and Adam (Debbie) Clement. He was a proud and loving grandfather to Dylan Wolf, Austin Wolf, Brooklyn O’Brien, Morgan Clement, Alyssa Wolf, Dane Clement, Cade Clement, Charlee Deering, and Kady Deering. He also leaves behind his sister, Karla Ostrem, and many extended family members and friends who will miss him deeply.

Preceding him in death were his parents and brother, Kenneth Gunther.

Ron will be remembered for his unwavering integrity, his service to country and community, and the deep love he had for his family. His legacy lives on in the lives he touched — quietly, generously, and without need for recognition.

Honoring Ron’s wishes, cremation has taken place, and his family will be celebrating his life privately. Arrangements were entrusted to Clark Chapel – Starks Family Funeral Homes, Dowagiac. To share a memory or offer condolences, please visit Ron’s personalized webpage at www.clarkch.com.
