A 16-year-old has been found dead in a Cass County lake after going missing Saturday.
The Cass County Sheriff’s Department says deputies responded to a missing child complaint at the Willow Shores Campground on US-12 in Porter Township around 9 a.m. The family had noticed their 16-year-old son, Kyle, was missing from their trailer. The family indicated Kyle is autistic.
Sheriff’s deputies, the Southeast Public Safety Authority, the Cass County Sheriff Marine Division, the Porter Township Fire Department, and the Indian Lake Fire Department searched on land and in the water of Baldwin Lake. A K-9 was also brought it.
During the search, K-9 Britton indicated to her handler that Kyle had gone into Baldwin Lake. A drone piloted by sheriff’s department personnel then spotted Kyle under the water at approximately 3:25 p.m. and the dive team recovered his body.
The teen was pronounced dead at the scene, and the incident remains under investigation.
