Lakeshore endured the most lopsided defeat in program history Friday night, falling 57-0 on the road at Portage Central. The Lancers never found any rhythm on offense, finishing with just 71 total yards and three first downs while turning the ball over three times. The Mustangs struck early and often, piling up 31 points in the first quarter and 20 more in the second to take a 51-0 lead into halftime. By the time Portage Central capped the night with a fourth-quarter touchdown, Lakeshore’s defense had surrendered 396 yards, including 310 on the ground. Combined with shutout losses in their first two games, the Lancers have now been outscored 111-0 this season
The loss marked not only Lakeshore’s third straight setback to open the year, but also the worst defeat in school history, surpassing all previous margins. With the offense struggling to move the ball and the defense unable to contain the Mustangs’ versatile attack, the Lancers will need to regroup quickly. They return to action next Friday night at Al Stockman Stadium, where they’ll try to bounce back in front of their home crowd against Kalamazoo Central, who comes in at 2-1
