Jacob Wilson homered and had a career-high four RBIs, Tyler Soderstrom had two hits and two RBIs, and Shea Langeliers doubled among his three hits and scored two runs. Eduarniel Núñez (1-0) made his eighth MLB appearance and got his first career win. After Detroit took a 6-5 lead in the top of the 10th, Will Vest (6-3) started the bottom of the inning and gave up two runs — one earned — on a hit and three walks, his sixth blown save in 25 opportunities this season. Soderstrom’s RBI single tied the score 6-6 before Vest walked three of the next four hitters.

WNBA – Women’s National Basketball Association
Last Night
Indiana Fever 95, Seattle Storm 75

Fever 95, Storm 75 – Fever beat the Storm 95-75 to move into 6th in WNBA standings
Aliyah Boston had 27 points and nine rebounds, Odyssey Sims scored 22 points and the Indiana Fever beat the Seattle Storm 95-75 to finish a sweep of the three-game season series. Indiana (20-18) moved past Seattle (20-19) and Golden State (19-18) for sixth in the WNBA standings, with six games remaining in the regular season. The top eight teams make the playoffs. Kelsey Mitchell scored 21 points and Lexie Hull had nine rebounds for the Fever. Caitlin Clark (right groin) did not play for the 16th straight game. Nneka Ogwumike scored 12 of her 17 points in the first half for Seattle, which had its three-game winning streak snapped. Brittney Sykes added 12 points, and Skylar Diggins had eight assists.

WNBA – Caitlin Clark ramping up her work, inching closer to return from groin injury
Caitlin Clark was not in the lineup for the Indiana Fever on Tuesday night against Seattle. But last season’s Rookie of the Year is perhaps not too far away from returning. Coach Stephanie White says Clark participated in a walk-through on Monday as part of her ramping-up process for returning to play. The star guard has been sidelined since July 15 with a strained right groin. She has missed 24 games this year, including the last 15. White says it will take multiple practices for Clark to return to action. The Fever have six games left after Tuesday.

NCAAFB – ND’s title hopes likely will hinge on the success of its star running back
Running back Jeremiyah Love finds himself at the heart of No. 6 Notre Dame’s game plan this season. His hurdling of opponents were all over highlight reels last season. And now The Associated Press preseason All-American finds himself in the early Heisman Trophy discussion. But with a new, inexperienced quarterback leading the team, Love knows he’ll need to carry a hefty load as the Fighting Irish try to win their first national championship since 1988. The road to the playoffs begins Sunday night when the Irish visit No. 10 Miami in the season opener for both teams.

NCAAFB – Barstool’s Portnoy banned from Ohio State
Dave Portnoy won’t be inside Ohio Stadium with the Fox Sports’ “Big Noon Kickoff” crew before the game between Texas and Ohio State this weekend. The Barstool Sports founder posted a video Tuesday claiming Ohio State banned him and the “Barstool College Football Show” from campus. Portnoy makes his Fox Sports debut Saturday after Barstool and the network announced a partnership last month. Ohio State said Tuesday that only the main desk crew would be allowed in the stadium and that Fox said Portnoy is not part of that crew. Fox Sports declined to comment on Portnoy’s status.

NFL – Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce are engaged
It’s a love story and, baby, she said yes. Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce are engaged. The superstar singer and football player revealed the news in a five-photo joint post on Instagram on Tuesday. It’s the fairytale culmination of a courtship that for two years has thrilled and fascinated millions around the world. It’s unclear when and where the two got engaged. The announcement comes not long after Swift’s appearance on “New Heights” as part of the rollout of her upcoming album. That’s the podcast hosted by the Kansas City Chiefs tight end and his brother Jason Kelce.

Tennis – Gauff’s 1st match with a new serve coach is a struggle but also a win
Coco Gauff has won her first match since enlisting someone to help with her shaky serving and moved into the second round at the U.S. Open. The No. 3-seeded Gauff got off to a rocky start and was broken a total of six times before pulling away to defeat 79th-ranked Ajla Tomljanovic 6-4, 6-7 (2), 7-5 in Arthur Ashe Stadium on Tuesday night. Gauff avoided a second consecutive first-round Grand Slam exit after bowing out right away at Wimbledon. She started working recently with Gavin MacMillan, a biomechanics expert who helped current No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka retool her serve a few years ago.

Tennis – Wimbledon champs Sinner and Swiatek get off to good starts at the US Open
Iga Swiatek is trying to do something no woman has done since Serena Williams in 2012: win the U.S. Open and Wimbledon in the same season. Jannik Sinner is trying to do something no man has done since Roger Federer in 2008: repeat as U.S. Open champion. By the looks of things on Tuesday in Arthur Ashe Stadium as the now-three-day first round wrapped up, the two players who triumphed at the All England Club last month — and who both served short doping-related bans last year — look ready to contend again in New York. Swiatek dropped three games, Sinner four.
