The start of the school year means you’ll be seeing a lot more school buses on the roads and students waiting at bus stops.

Michigan State Police First Lieutenant Mike Shaw has a message for drivers.

“The best thing to think about them is it’s like a traffic signal, right? So if the bus has the red lights activated, that means to stop, and if it has yellow lights on, that means to start slowing down. And if it’s just staying on yellow, that you can proceed with caution. But always be careful. These first couple of days, for sure, kids are going to be running around all over the place. So use some extra caution around those school buses.”

Shaw says many drivers who are in a rush often try to get around school buses, but that’s something you should never do.
