Southwestern Michigan College is entering a new phase in its search for a new president.
The college announced this week it received 128 applications for the post throughout a six-week period that ended August 17. The SMC Board of Trustees and the Presidential Search Committee are now going through those applications to select some candidates for interviews.
College Human Resources Director Nicole Lehman says submissions came in from all over the county, representing a wide range of experience and backgrounds. She adds the board is “delighted” with the amount of interest shown in the job.
SMC’s eighth president, Dr. Joe Odenwald, resigned in February and Senior Vice President and Chief Strategy Officer Brent Brewer was named Interim President effective May 11.
College leaders hope to start bringing in candidates for interviews in October or November.
